Building on Success - A Vision for the Expansion
of the
Door County Humane Society
Door County Humane Society: The front line in caring for the lost and abandoned companion animals from Washington Island to Forestville
We are the only organization charged with this responsibility and now our building is bursting at the seams. Lost, abandoned or mistreated animals, potential pet owners, volunteers and staff members have filled our present facility on Park Drive to capacity and beyond. As the Door County Humane Society (DCHS) strives to keep pace with the growing need, it has become clear that years of heavy use have taken a toll on a facility that must respond to the pressing animal issues of our region.
The current building - built to serve the needs of a decade ago - is now experiencing great difficulty responding to our increasing animal population
A capital campaign is underway to secure $1.5 million in private funds toward creating a new adoption center and remodeling the care-giving facilities.
You are our missing link in the Door County Humane Society's plans to build for the future.
Every township and municipality in the county contributes to our animal population and approximately half donate to our operational expenses. As our reputation as a compassionate, low-kill society spreads throughout the community, the number of animals brought to our shelter has grown exponentially. Whether you own animals or not, the shelter expansion promises positive results for all county residents. The increased access and visibility will lead to a higher adoption rate, expanded educational offerings will translate into more responsible pet owners, and increased space means opportunities for more volunteers and greater community involvement. The Door County Humane Society staff, volunteers and associated veterinarians are committed to life-saving work for cats and dogs. An updated facility will enable this work to continue and mature.
The total costs for this project will be $1.5 million. We are just over a third of the way toward meeting our goal. Many dedicated individuals are working with the Board of Directors to research and design a building that is truly responsive to our specialized needs. Full-time and seasonal residents from the entire peninsula, along with local and national corporations and foundations with a demonstrated interest in animal welfare, are being asked to help fund our campaign.
This is YOUR shelter and contributions of any size will help us accomplish this expansion.
Naming opportunities and programs are available for one-time gifts or automatic renewals that keep you involved in such an ongoing, important way. DCHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
