We have two positions open:

1.)  Position:  Door County Humane Society Volunteer/Adoption Coordinator

Shift:  Full Time

Duties:  

  • Responsible for recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Ensure that the interests of volunteers are served and the organization remains well staffed
  • Coordinate and schedule volunteers on an ongoing basis
  • Keep existing volunteers informed via newsletters, Facebook, email, phone or other communications
  • Hold volunteer appreciation events
  • Maintain, improve and develop volunteer programs
  • Produce and present shelter volunteer training sessions
  • Act as point of contact for all shelter volunteers
  • Comply with workplace policies and procedures, including Occupational Safety and Health and Equal   Opportunity legislation.
  • Manage all areas of the animal adoption program
  • Review incoming adoption applications
  • Conduct pre-adoption screening
  • Organize, plan and execute adoption events
  • Approve or even deny adoption applications
  • Counsel clients on, traits and state adoption policies and methods regarding cats
  • Educate adoptive families about the specific needs of adopted animals
  • Ability to apply sound judgment in interpreting, applying, and explaining department policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literate in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and data entry
  • Strength in analyzing, researching, organizing, and problem-solving
  • Highly motivated to achieve set goals
  • Equally effective working independently and in cooperation with others
  • Ability to create, develop and maintain meaningful relationships
  • Effective in promoting a positive, productive environment
  • Detail-oriented and have the ability to multitask
  • Have an outgoing personality and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people
  • Communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles—experience with volunteers preferred
  • Work cooperatively with different types of personalities
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 45 pounds
  • Likes cats and dogs

2.)  Position:  Animal Care Cattery Position

Shift:  Weekends (possible full time during summer)

Pay:  $9.00 per hour

Duties:  Feeding, watering, cleaning litter boxes, sweeping, mopping, laundry, dishes, cleaning, observing health and behavior statuses, clipping nails, cleaning ears, assisting with medical checks, assisting in blood draws, answering phones, and socializing with public.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 18 yrs old. high school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience performing animal care activities is desirable.
  3. Ability to remain on feet for long periods, lift 50 lbs.; perform strenuous physical tasks.
  4. Ability to stay on task and be detail orientated.
  5. Able to take direction well.
  6. Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  7. Ease in talking to general public.
  8. Comfortable administering medications and assisting in blood draws.
  9. Do well in stressful situations.
